Roman Rotenberg, first vice president of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (FHR) and head coach of the “Russia 25” national team, has spoken out about the possibility of Russian hockey returning to international tournaments. The Russian national team has been suspended from competitions since 2022.
“Step by step, we are working on the issue of our reinstatement. In 2018, we went to the Olympics and became champions, even though it was extremely difficult. A lot of diplomatic work was done then,” Rotenberg said.
“Of course, we are working on our return – this involves the Russian Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Sports, the Presidential Administration, and the Russian Ice Hockey Federation. We are one big sports family. We are doing everything possible to return to the international arena.”
Rotenberg acknowledged the influence of politics on sports: “Everyone understands that these are political decisions right now. We maintain relationships with everyone and are constantly communicating at the international level. We will do everything possible to see our stars at the World Championship and the Olympics.”
